HelloPrint is the world’s largest marketplace for customized print products. These products are produced as locally as possible, utilizing a high-density network of more than 200 high-quality producers serving customers across 13 countries.
HelloPrint is recognized for its strong commitment to sustainability and efforts to minimize environmental impact, a commitment recently strengthened by bringing on board their first VP of Sustainability, Isabelle de Wolf.
Upon joining the team, Isabelle took on the task of gaining a comprehensive overview of HelloPrint’s environmental impact and translating these insights into an actionable sustainability strategy. To achieve this, she needed to conduct extensive research and analysis, a time-consuming and complex process.
“The challenge is to combine economic and ecological factors and integrate them into the business strategy. This involves identifying areas where the company can reduce its environmental impact while also improving its bottom line,” Isabelle explains.
Another challenge was meeting the minimum legal requirements for ESG reporting.
“We want to ensure HelloPrint is compliant with CSRD and other regulations related to sustainability. This requires staying up-to-date with legislative changes and making all necessary adjustments. It’s my job to be proactive about these types of changes.”
Additionally, Isabelle’s role encompasses project and change management, ensuring that everyone has access to the right information and integrates sustainability into the business’s decision-making process.
“Sustainability is such a broad concept that it can be difficult to make it clear and specific. However, it is essential to do so to ensure that everyone understands and embraces its importance.”
HelloPrint’s initial footprint calculation for 2021 was based on activity data and focused only on the categories they were already aware of.
To get a more complete understanding of their environmental impact, they sought a new tool that would provide a clearer picture and help identify areas for improvement.
“One important issue was tracking year-over-year changes to measure how much progress we’ve made and how effective our sustainability measures were,” says Isabelle.
Ultimately, they decided to partner with Coolset due to its ability to track and evaluate the long-term impact of sustainability measures, using a robust, TÜV-certified, and GHGP-compliant methodology.
With Coolset, HelloPrint gained detailed understanding of their carbon footprint and the specific factors contributing to it. The platform also helped them identify key metrics and measure sustainability progress over time.
Isabelle’s ultimate goal is to ensure that all HelloPrint teams consider both economic and sustainability factors in their operations. By working closely with all departments, she aims to position HelloPrint as a leader in sustainability within their industry. As she notes, the right KPIs make all the difference.
